Global Category Lead (Packaging: cartons/flexibles) FMCG Wielkopolskie PL17- R550-S01

Out Client: is leading FMCG producer. Due to their substantial development they are looking for motivated purchasing professional to manage their global packaging category team.

The Mission:

Leading global strategic agenda for Flexibles & Cartons Packaging Categories through adopting a Total Cost of Ownership approach, developing and implementing highly effective procurement strategies to support the business requirements. Responsible for working closely with cross-site and cross- functional teams to develop supply Procurement category strategies that reduce cost, ensure continuity of supply, and meet company’s quality , social responsibility and food safety requirements.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Purchasing Director (UK), you will be responsible for the following:

Strategy Development and execution:

  • Customizing approach as necessary to develop long-range, global procurement plans for key commodities using appropriate thinking, behavior and practices
  • Taking a global category view and in conjunction with stakeholders, assessing then prioritizing opportunities for best business value.
  • Developing global category plans, engaging stakeholders, driving outcomes and engaging LCL delivery as appropriate
  • Selecting suppliers, conducting supplier negotiations, establishing and monitoring supply agreements, under guidance of Procurement Director, Supply Centre and Finance TeamMeasuring and reviewing suppliers performance and leading continuous improvement programs. Executing of plans to assure continuous supply of quality goods (and services where appropriate)

Risk management & Quality improvement:

  • Developing and planning the execution of plans across sites to assure continuous supply of quality goods and services
  • Forecasting and planning the mitigation of supply vulnerabilities
  • Ensuring that suppliers meet quality requirements and applicable regulatory requirements (from a global and a local perspective)by initiating appropriate action when supplier quality or compliance deficiencies are identified, managing problem resolution and returns as appropriate for assigned portfolio

Cost management and market analysis:

  • Developing and implementing effective cost management programs to deliver year-on-year cost improvement
  • Tracking and reporting on benefits and project process to support the Global Procurement team KPIs
  • Together with the Local Category Manager and stakeholders, determine quality and delivery improvement opportunities; evaluate future value-driving opportunities
  • Investigate supply market. Evaluate supply, quality and price risks, and supplier capabilities Forecast supply vulnerabilities and implement plans to insure continuity of supply


  • Lead cross-functional teams in association with developing procurement strategies, costs savings; mitigating risks and vulnerabilities, resolving issues and other initiatives as required
  • Work closely with all relevant Local Category Managers (3 plants: Poland, China, UK, team of 5 people), coaching for capability and embedding the global category strategies and plans

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • at least bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (business/finance/economics/engineering/ mathematics) or equivalent
  • at least 6 years of experience in strategic procurement within FMCG, Food, Packaging, Pharmaceuticals industry
  • successful track record in leading packaging category, technical knowledge of packaging materials categories including: cartons, flexibles, tins, sundries
  • leadership experience (preferably leading distributed team)
  • experience working with cross functional teams, aligning technical requirements with commercial terms and conditions
  • hands-on knowledge of strategic sourcing methodologies and category management processes
  • significant proven competency in contracting/negotiation processes and best practices
  • strong analytical skills including the ability to distill, synthesize, and draw conclusions on large amounts of data
  • strategic thinking and planning
  • stakeholder engagement and management
  • strong interpersonal skills: communication, influencing, collaboration, cultural awareness, ability to manage ambiguity
  • fluent English
